Tamahere Reserve planting starts
Now that the Waikato District Council has arranged for some of the pine trees to be removed, due to safety concerns, from the Tamahere Reserve in Tauwhare Road the Tamahere Mangaone Restoration Trust have started to replant in the areas available to us. To date we have planted 825 new native species with about 300 more to be planted. There is still work to be done to repair the damaged boardwalk in the reserve, this is work the Waikato District Council will ensure gets done. There is also work required to remove those logs that have fallen into the bottom of the reserve so as to maintain a good natural flow of ground water which will drain into the Mangaone Stream. It is likely no other new planting will be done until this work is completed.
