Trust opens public walkway at Bilsthorpe Lane

The Tamahere Mangaone Restoration Trust is a group of volunteers who for the past 14 years have engaged in several ecological restoration projects in the Tamahere/Matangi area.

You may be aware that there is an ecological restoration project taking place on public land in the gully network along the Mangaharakeke Stream which borders some Bilsthorpe Lane properties.

The Trust along with the Waikato District Council and with financial support from a local targeted rate have been restoring the native flora in this gully system for the past four years.

The project has progressed to a stage where the Trust feels it is safe for the public to walk through the restoration works and enjoy the Mangaharakeke Stream gully restoration and to see the several stages of the native plantings.

The Trust now offers access to their ecological restoration work in the Mangaharakeke stream gully with access to the walkway from the cul-de-sac end of Bilsthorpe Lane, Matangi.

The area will in time have a more permanent walkway which is currently going through the final stages of the resource consent prior to the construction phase. In the meantime, when visiting the area please be careful as there are some safety concerns until this permanent walkway is constructed.

Suitable footwear is advised as there are some areas where the ground could be a little wet underfoot.
